Student Leadership
At Mercy Catholic College, student leadership is grounded in service, responsibility and a commitment to making a positive difference. We believe every student has the capacity to lead. Leadership is not limited to formal positions; it is demonstrated through everyday actions, relationships and contributions to the life of the College.
Through a wide range of leadership opportunities, students develop confidence, communication skills, resilience and the ability to work collaboratively with others. Leadership formation also encourages students to engage actively in faith-based initiatives, social justice programs and community outreach, helping them to grow as thoughtful, responsible and compassionate young women.
Senior Student Leadership
The College Captain, College Vice Captains and College Prefects are elected from Year 12 by their peers, the student body and teachers. These students provide leadership across the College, represent the student body and work closely with staff to support College initiatives. Senior leaders are formally inducted at the Mercy Day Mass.
Portfolio Leadership
Students can also serve in a variety of portfolio leadership roles that reflect the diverse opportunities available at Mercy.
Portfolio Prefects are elected from Year 11 and Year 12 and provide leadership across key areas of College life, including:
- Creative Arts and Media
- Liturgy
- Mercy Action
- Environment
- Learning
House Captains are also elected from Year 11 and Year 12 and play an important role in building House spirit, participation and community engagement. Portfolio Prefects and House Captains are formally inducted at the Opening College Mass.
Student Representation
Students in Years 7 to 10 have opportunities to contribute to College life through leadership and representative roles. Portfolio Representatives and House Representatives are elected by their peers and teachers and work alongside student leaders and staff to promote student voice, foster participation and support College initiatives.
These students are formally inducted at the Opening College Mass and play an important role in strengthening the sense of community and belonging across the College.
All girls are able to contribute to the Student Representative Council.
Leading Through Service
Leadership at Mercy is about making a difference. Students are encouraged to contribute their gifts and talents in service to others, whether through faith leadership, social justice initiatives, peer support, House activities, sporting teams, creative arts programs or community events.
Through these experiences, Mercy students develop the confidence and capability to lead with purpose, becoming young women who are empowered to create positive change within their communities and beyond.
