Creative and Performing Arts Cocurricular Presently Offered:

Choral Program

Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir is Mercy’s premier vocal ensemble. Students confident in reading music and singing in multiple parts are encouraged to audition. The choir performs regularly at competitions, school events and community functions.

Pop Choir

Open to students who enjoy singing contemporary music, the Pop Choir performs throughout the year at a variety of College and community events.

Concert Band

The Concert Band represents Mercy Catholic College at a variety of school and community events throughout the year. Students participating in the Concert Band must be receiving tuition on their instrument, either through the College or privately.

Stage Band

The Stage Band consists of:

  • Drum kit
  • Piano
  • Bass guitar
  • Guitar
  • Brass instruments
  • Saxophone
  • Woodwind instruments

Students develop their ensemble and performance skills through a range of contemporary and traditional repertoire.

Small Ensembles

Students can further develop their musical interests through a range of specialist ensembles, including:

  • String Ensemble
  • Flute Ensemble
  • Friday Guitar Ensemble
  • New Wave Guitar Ensemble
  • Rock Band (for Elective Music students in Years 9-12)

These ensembles provide valuable opportunities for collaboration, performance and musical growth.

Private Instrumental Tuition

Private music tuition is available in a range of instruments, subject to demand, including:

  • Piano
  • Voice
  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Saxophone
  • Trumpet and Brass
  • Guitar and Bass
  • Violin, Viola and Cello
  • Drum Kit and Percussion

Dance

Recreational Dance Ensemble

Open to students in Years 7-12, this ensemble is ideal for students who enjoy dance and performance. All ability levels are welcome.

Competitive Dance Ensemble

Students can audition to join the Competitive Dance Ensemble, which performs at competitions, festivals and College events throughout the year. Styles currently include:

  • Jazz
  • Hip Hop
  • Contemporary

All dance groups perform at the College’s annual Creative Arts Showcase.
