Feeder Schools and Transition Program

Mercy Catholic College is proud to be part of the Catholic Schools Broken Bay (CSBB) community. All Catholic primary schools within the CSBB system are recognised as feeder schools to Mercy Catholic College.

We value the strong partnerships we share with our feeder schools and are committed to ensuring students experience a positive and confident transition to secondary school. Throughout the year, students are invited to participate in a range of engagement and transition opportunities designed to build familiarity, confidence and connection with the Mercy community.

Building Connections Before Year 7

Taster Days provide primary school students with the opportunity to experience “a day in the life” of a Mercy student. Students participate in a range of lessons and activities, meet staff and students, and gain a firsthand experience of secondary school.

Our Principal and College leaders regularly visit feeder primary schools throughout the year, strengthening relationships with students and families and providing opportunities to learn more about life at Mercy Catholic College.

During Mercy Week, our student leaders and staff participate in Mercy Outreach Day, visiting feeder primary schools to share the Mercy story, celebrate our shared heritage and values, and build connections with future Mercy students.

Three-Stage Orientation Program

To ensure students feel confident and supported as they transition to high school, Mercy Catholic College offers a comprehensive three-stage orientation program:

Year 5 Welcome Afternoon Tea
Prospective students and their families are invited to attend an afternoon tea at the College. This intimate event provides approximately 30 Year 5 girls and their families with an opportunity to meet staff, explore the College and begin building connections with the Mercy community.

Year 6 Orientation Day
In Term 4, all Year 6 students participate in a full cohort orientation experience. Students spend the day at Mercy, meeting their peers and teachers, exploring the campus and becoming familiar with the routines and expectations of secondary school.

Year 7 Transition Day
On the first day of Year 7, students participate in a dedicated orientation day alongside their Year 10 “Big Sisters.” This special program focuses on relationship-building, wellbeing and belonging, helping students settle into College life, develop friendships and feel connected from their very first day.

Together, these experiences provide a gradual and supportive transition into secondary education, ensuring students arrive at Mercy feeling known, welcomed and confident.

Together with our feeder primary schools, we provide a faith-filled pathway that nurtures students from their earliest years of learning through to graduation and beyond.
